Ms. Pettigrew has been teaching art in Florida public schools for over twenty four years.   She has been teaching at Kimball Wiles Elementary School in Gainesville, Florida for over sixteen years.   Ms. Pettigrew has been a strong voice in the Gainesville art community involved in workshops for teachers, students, and other artists while showing her work in the Gainesville area, Charlotte, North Carolina, and New York City, New York.   She has co produced two festivals, chaired on the board of the International Creativity Center, and was a co writer of the Harn Museum of Art’s ExplorAsia manual for teachers.   Ms. Pettigrew finds working with children refreshing. “I love to see the look on their face when it clicks and they understand an abstract concept.”

Children's Art Classes These classes are perfect for your little artist to further their art knowledge and skills. Classes are offered at our studio on a weekly basis for 45 minutes per class.   Students are taught based on a curriculum that covers art history, art technique but most of all, creative painting!   Your children will be able to use what they learn during class and apply it to their own masterpieces.   The children will create one finished piece every two weeks!   The cost of materials and instruction is all included in the monthly price!

The Gainesville Association for the Creative Arts was founded in 1967 by parents and educators who wanted education in the arts to be available to all area children.  They recognized the positive relationship among education in the arts, academics, and self-esteem. In small workshops, usually 8 to 10 children, GACA creates a non-pressured atmosphere where creativity can flourish.   We offer programs in the Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer for Adults and children ages 3 to 18.  Children do not need special attire--just comfortable clothes so they can feel free to participate.

The purpose of the National Art Education Association is to promote professional development in art education, advancement of knowledge, and leadership.   To that end, the Association will: sponsor informational, community outreach, and promotional activities, provide an effective transition from art education preparation to professional practice, promote an exchange of ideas in substantive art education and all areas of the visual arts, and maintain a high standard of quality art education on campus and in the community.   Twice a year, a series of Saturday art camps are offered for children between 5 and 15 years old.   Check the website for exact dates.
