4-H is an non-formal, practical educational program for youth.  It is the youth development program of Florida Cooperative Extension, a part of the University of Florida IFAS.  Florida 4-H is the place where there’s fun in learning and learning in fun!  A 4-H Club usually concentrates on one or more projects such as gardening, woodworking, small animals, food and nutrition, livestock, photography, etc.  4-H members build leadership by electing officers and conducting their own business meetings; work together on community service activities; meet new friends; and most important, have lots of fun.

Spiral Scouts
SpiralScouts is based on the idea of children and parents of both genders working together. Our program encourages girls and boys to learn, play, and work together under the direction of leaders of both genders as a way of showing by example that both men and women are capable and cooperative leaders.   Further, we encourage the entire family to be involved in SpiralScouts together.   This helps older children practice their leadership skills with relation to younger members, and provides younger children with the benefit of looking up to individuals who are more like peers, who understand their perspectives in a way that adults may have a hard time doing.   SpiralScouts thrives on child-directed activities based on a globally-oriented philosophy of religious tolerance and interfaith cooperation, personal responsibility, and ecological education and conservation, in order to help our children learn to grow into strong, competent members of society and citizens of the world.   In order to foster these skills, we believe that the children should make as many of the decisions as possible when it comes to the activities they do and how SpiralScouts works for them.   Adult leaders should facilitate this process, not dictate it.

Sunshine Region Pony Club
The mission of the United States Pony Clubs, Inc., is to provide a program for youth that teaches riding, mounted sports, and care of the horses and ponies, thereby developing responsibility, moral judgment, leadership and self-confidence.

The TPC meets throughout the year, at farms and homes in Alachua County.   Our members range in age from 8 to 21 and own or lease ponies or horses.

At unmounted meetings, members learn to care for their mount, and receive instruction in all aspects of horse management, from picking hooves to the identification of toxic plants.   At mounted meetings, our young riders may school in the classical pursuits of Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing, or scrimmage in Polocrosse, race in Games, or practice their marksmanship for the Tetrathlon.

Four to five times per year, our club travels within the state of Florida to compete in Rallies with other Pony Clubs.   The focus in our club is on Education, Teamwork and FUN!
