Our 13th Year of Summer Horseback Riding Day Camp (10 miles SW of Gainesville)
Let’s give your horse-crazy child an amazing week-long summer day camp at Canopy Oak Trails.
-Grooming, groundwork, mounting/dismounting, good body position & turning with legs, hips & reins, halt & back up
-Beginner to intermediate riding lessons (English, Western, bareback) taught by our instructor (17 years of experience teaching lessons) in the mornings. Mounted games, relays & trail rides in the afternoon. (There will be weeks for more advanced riders.)
-Close supervision in an enclosed area before riding in larger areas. High councellor to camper ratio (typically no less than 1 volunteer/2 campers). We’re limiting to a maximum of 8 campers/week
-Campers average 3-4 hours a day with their horse, riding twice each day.
-Inroduction to trail riding, jumping, barrel racing, pole bending, relays & equestrian games. Shady areas & wooded trails for riding when it’s hot.
-Unmounted learning: Horse safety, breeds & colors, anatomy, hoof care, nutrition, tack (saddles & other equipment). A great opportunity to learn about what it takes to own a horse
-On Friday, family is invited to attend the "horse show." Campers will present a mounted relay, a horse obstacle course & other demonstrations of skills that they've learned.
-We'll provide horses, helmets, tack, craft supplies, water & snacks. You'll provide bag lunches & your child, eager to learn everything about horses. Let us help make this summer the best ever.
