Abacus Learning Center opened the doors for the first day of school back in September of 1994.   It has been owned and operated by Sharon Jacobs since it first began.   We are located in Haile Plantation in the Haile Village Center.   We offer full day and part day programs to accommodate the needs of all types of families.   Abacus Learning Center believes young children learn best through personal experiences.   The staff promotes a balanced curriculum of both child-initiated and teacher-initiated experiences.   The primary goal of the staff is the all-around development of the child.

VPK: Monday-Friday 8:00AM - 12:00noon
K-12: Monday - Friday 8:30AM - 3:00PM
After-Care Hours: Before school care is available from 7:00 - 8:00AM.   We have an elementary after school program that meets from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.   Aftercare is $8 per day or $80 per month (whichever is less).   There is no enrollment necessary for Aftercare.   Students may attend any days in which the parent requires them to do so and then are billed at the end of each month.

The Spencer House Montessori school was founded in 1999 with the goal of providing a truly substantive curriculum in the loving environment of a family owned and operated school.   To compliment the unique atmosphere of the historic school building, the Montessori teaching method pioneered by Dr. Maria Montessori was chosen to base the curriculum on.   Montessori emphasizes learning through exploration and experience as opposed to teacher-centered drills and exercises.   The Montessori classroom is designed to introduce the child to the joy of learning at an early age and provides the framework for individual and social discipline.   The years between three and six are the prime time for laying an academic foundation, and more importantly, the years when a child learns the ground rules of human behavior most easily.   At The Spencer House Montessori, we believe that it is up to each of us, whether we are parents or friends of parents, to reach out and encourage children as they grow and learn.
